Critical Pedagogy in Writing Professional Development

This session focuses on how critical pedagogy as described by Freire (1970, 1985) can help provide a framework for educators in their own professional development process. The presenters look at professional development through the lens of critical pedagogy to help us reflect on our practice and begin questioning our role in helping our students and ourselves become critically conscious and develop a sense of agency in our practice. As teachers working in the language classroom, but also as writers, we can purposefully navigate the impact of our students’ and our own writing.
